Bobi Wine Reports Armed Raid on Home, Claims Soldiers Isolated Wife
Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, says armed soldiers raided his home late Friday, allegedly assaulting family members and isolating his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, as political tensions escalate in Uganda.

 

Tension is rising within Uganda’s opposition circles following reports that armed, masked soldiers raided the home of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, in the late hours of Friday, January 23, 2026.

According to a statement posted on Bobi Wine’s official social media platforms, a group of masked and armed soldiers allegedly broke into his residence, assaulted family members, and forcibly isolated his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi.

At the time of the incident, Bobi Wine was not at the residence. He is reportedly in hiding after escaping a separate security operation on Friday, January 16, 2026, when security forces allegedly attempted to enter his home.

“A group of masked, armed soldiers has just broken into our house and beaten up my family members. They have currently isolated my wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, alone. Their intentions are unclear,” the post read.

Further concern was raised by Dax Vibes, Bobi Wine’s younger brother, who also alerted the public via social media: “First Lady is being kidnapped now and she’s isolated. Soldiers breaking in now,” he wrote.

As of publication, there has been no official statement from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) or police confirming or denying the operation.

The whereabouts and condition of Barbie Kyagulanyi remain unclear, heightening anxiety among supporters and human rights observers.

The reported raid comes amid heightened political tension, with Bobi Wine alleging increased surveillance and intimidation against him and his family.

Supporters and opposition figures have condemned the alleged actions, calling for accountability, transparency, and respect for constitutional protections.
